As you may have heard, Chris Metzler and I, Lev Anderson, are co-directing a feature documentary about Fishbone. We have been working on the film for over a year and plan to be done at the end of this year. The film is a history of the band and the cultural forces that swirled around them and influenced the music through Junior high school up to the present day. We have been on two European tours with the band and have filmed them performing throughout the U.S.
We have interviewed original, former and current members of the band as well as family and friends. We have also interviewed other musicians such as members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, No Doubt, Circle Jerks, Mike Watt (Minutemen), Bob Forrest (Thelonious Monster), Jane's Addiction, Metallica, Ice T, Public Enemy, DJ Spooky, Living Colour and Bad Brains.
We hope that the resulting film will be as fun and kick ass as Fishbone and their music has been over the years.
To make this film as comprehensive a portrait of the band as we can, we are looking to gather as much video footage, photos, fliers, etc. as possible. And that is why we are posting this at fishbonelive.org. If you have high-resolution photos, scans of old fliers or posters or videos we would be willing to trade some video footage and photos that are currently not available anywhere else. Each contribution of archival materials will be considered and we would in return, at least give you a Special Edition DVD of the film. The better quality or originality of archival material, the more material we could provide in return.
If you have any questions about the project or about contributing archival material, please feel free to contact Chris and I at levanderson@gmail.com and metzler@rocketmail.com
If you are curious about previous films we have done, please visit the website for Chris' film PLAGUES AND PLEASURES ON THE SALTON SEA, an award winning documentary narrated by John Waters. To view a trailer, go to www.saltonseadoc.com
We really hope to make a great film about a great band and hope that all of you can pitch in to help!!

Koifish reports in his review of last Friday's Fishbone Key club show that Dirty Walt sang backup during the second half of the show. With earlier reports of Norwood talking with former original members, the perspective of a reunion is less and less a wild dream.
Ter à Terre and Fishbone have announced that the filming of the first official Fishbone live DVD will take place at the Rock School Barbey, in Bordeaux, France, on April 23rd 2008. After a year of part-time coding, I'm proud to publish the new and improved FishboneLive.org. Aside from the slick new looks (thanks to Arturo), it has a few interesting new features:
To stay up to date, RSS feeds for the news and upcoming tour dates that can be syndicated on your own web site or just read through any RSS reader,
To react, commentable news items,
To join the fun, gig mini forums,
To share the experience, linkable youTube clips and improved BitTorrent tracker,
To enjoy the site, full of neat little web2.0 features.
I hope you like the new www.FishboneLive.org and that you will keep spreading the love. Feel free to report all the bugs to webmaster@fishbonelive.org. The site was developped for Firefox (2+), but should work fine with Internet Explorer (6+) and Safari (3+)
Kanswer's Dear Trouble now available as a digital release
Previously only available at concerts, Dear Trouble, Dre Gipson's Kanswer debut is now available for download from all major digital music outlets, such as iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster,... This record showcases the recognizable touch of the songwriter behind "Party with Saddam" and "Behind Closed Doors" and features Marc Rey (Weapon of Choice) on guitars and Padre Holmes (Fishbone) on bass. Personal highlights: "Trade my World", "No Haters" and "Monday Morning"
Fishbone will be playing a massive euro tour in April 2008, with some thirty dates scattered all over Europe. One of the highlights could very well be the 04/26 Elysee Montmartre, Paris gig with no other than Infectious Grooves. Check the Tour Dates section for more info. Other dates will be added soon.
The Inspector Cluzo is the new band of former Wolfunkind drummer and guitarist Mathieu and Laurent. They have a good shot at becoming the funk version of the White Stripes. Check out their new songs with guest appearances by Norwood and Angelo on their brand new myspace. It's worth a listen or ten ! Then go check them out live when you have a chance. My little finger tells me they should not be too far away of where Fishbone plays...
John Bigham's The Good Girl Blues has been nominated for Best New Artist Debut at the 2008 Blues Music Award, considered to be the highest honor given to blues artists. John was part of Fishbone from the early 90s until 1997 and contributed to the three Fishbone records of the decade. He also worked with Miles Davis in the late 80s. The award will be attributed in May 2008.
Dirty Walt has a few treats for this holiday season. First of all, Year of the Dragon, his project with Rodcore and Spacey T is hosting three gigs in December in LA, on the 6th, 13th and 20th. The gigs happen at the relaxbar on Hollywood Boulevard. More info at http://www.myspace.com/yotd or http://www.yearofthedragonband.com/ This will certainly frustrate fans of the dog king of the freaks not living in the greater LA area. But then, there is the second treat ! Dirty Walt shares some new music from an upcoming Columbus Sanitation record supposedly appropriately titled "Still Smoking". Hear the three smoking songs on myspace : http://www.myspace.com/ogdirtywalt
