This is the earliest known Fishbone recording, with the band opening for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Sound fluctuates from VG+ to EX-. Vocals are very distant (in fact, at times inaudible) for most of the show. By track 10, the sound improves a lot, with the vocals becoming more audible. The drums sound great, and the guitar and horns can also be heard clearly throughout the show. There is a burst of digital static at 2:46 into track 5, and a few seconds of digital clicking at the beginning of track 8. Both of these anomalies were present on the original CDR I ripped from. They don't last long, and shouldn't detract from your enjoyment of the show.

This is a great matrix (soundboard + audience mics), superb quality. Some saturation at the beggining, but its 1000 times compensated by the excellent set and crystal clear sound. Almost good enough for a commercial official release. This show is now available for unlimited download @ http://www.archive.org/

The all-star jam the MC rattles off the names so quick I don't catch most of them but Alex Ligertwood of Santana is one of them. upclose shot, in front of Norwood (center right), great stage view (mainly of Angelo), but very muddy sound (Wood's amp don't give much chance to Angelo, but the bass is almost crystal clear...). It's be great to dub with a soundboard/good audience recording (or do a good eq at least). Anyone anyone ? so low rating for the sound

Definitely the best of the three shows I saw in this Euro tour. The venue was not packed (250-300) so moshpit action was limited, but nonetheless, the band was on fire and so was the audience. Good setlist with the reappearance of When Problems Arise and CCBAR. Great version Behind closed doors whose tempo was slowed down and made really groovy. Finale extravaganza with ser...
I remember seeing an off the hook Fishbone show at the old Aéronef, in downtown Lille, back in 1992, in the wake of the LA riots. This time around was no different. Though they did not get to play in the big stage which hindered a lot of stage movement, a great deal of positive energy was shared between the stage and the moshpit, Angelo singing the first half of alcoholic,...
The highlight of this show was how the band managed to funnel all that positive energy to leave everyone in the place totally stunned with a wide smile on their face. I had pitched to show to a few friends curious about the reason of my addiction, and they are now the addicts ! The sound was perfect, Rocky was up there in the mix, for once, Other really cool moment was driv...
It's been a while since i've seen Fishbone play in front of a packed 1300 capacity house and by the third of their set, they managed to win over the 60% of the audience there for suicidal grooves/ infectious tendencies. (while basically, at the end of the IG set a good third of the audience was much less interested) The show was great but did not reach the crazy intensity of Perpignan. Eve...
There's no way i could have fully enjoyed this show after the incredible performance form last night in Perpignan. Huge hall with terrible sound, the right channel of the PA shut down for 2 good minutes, short set, Grimskunk playing at the same time, general tiredness,... But the guys got to play in front of an estimated 2500 crowd and they were their usual crazy good.
This gig at the Mediator probably was one of the very best fishbone show i've seen with the current lineup. great energy. awesome interaction between padre and angelo. best version of give it up i've heard so far with an impromptu rock intro that kicked ass (thanks john and rocky). had they played as long as in bordeaux, this would have been the ultimate fishbone show. I have to give spe...
the show just ended. be warned. people in the first row of your living room is gonna get wet when you play this dvd... awesome show.
Great public, great venue, great energy, great music, great sound but waaaay to short ! Nice to have met fellow familyhoodsters and thanks to all who helped me find my glasses....
The Botanique is a really cool venue located in an awesome building, formerly a botanical garden. It was nicely filled (considering the very low promotion that the gig received) but not packed and i guess most people were still tired from their week end and they were slow to get into the groov. I tried my best to make people move, but i've had more success earlier. Sound was perfect (i'll post ...
Wow - another great fishbone show. Openers Wolfunkind are really great, and god knows how though it is to even dare open for the bone ! they have a great sense of humor and self-derision (borderline belgian, i could say) on stage. Angelo came up on stage a couple of times to help them on Grimskunk's 'Looking for Gabio' (on fire!) and the maddvibesque 'Angelo Dances with Martine' (doodoodeewap)....
Wow, 2h30+ of pure Fishbone madness. Parisian crowds are always great, and Le Plan was nicely filled to capacity (400+). After a short set by french gay headbangers Wolfunkind telling us the real story behind the love affair between David Starsky and Ken Hutchinson. Fishbone took the stage around 8:45 and did not stop until 11:15. Pretty good mix of old songs with an emphasis on T&S & ROMS and...
Man, since the first reviews of the euro tour were so so, i feared the worst for this gig, but was i to be mistaken !!!
the show started off with an usual "Everyday sunshine" and ended with a blazing 10 minutes long version of "Party at ground zero", a couple of hours later. In between, "the same old songs" but without a weak moment, except for my drinking song (Ma&Pa - whic...
Fishbone definitely is best experienced in clubs. Nonetheless, they really set the field on fire. Most of the attendance (3500) were Fishbone virgins and definitely were mesmerized by the performance. Dre had to take over Angelo's role a bit since his knee problems resurfaced just the day before, but nobody could tell that a french doctor tried to not let him on stage (or something like that)...
This was a perfect way to start my holidays !
Despite a 2 hours traffic jam just at the entrance of Amsterdam, and getting lost in A'dam for good measure, which made me miss Wolfunkind, I met up with Arno and his friends + Arne who was as gifted as i was re: traffic. It might sound a bit silly, but i just find it incredible to have been able to make good friends like them ov...
Man I'm so glad i caught the webcast (thanks Brian). this show was a killer. this band not only has the potential, it's releasing it. Spankin' new arrangements on most songs, great energy, incredible vocal and horns harmonies, brilliant keys. Thank you Fishbone.
First off, i've got to give mad props to the opening band (and booking agent), Wolfunkind -> http://www.wolfunkind.com/. I was to tired to enjoy them fully in Paris, but these guys play a great tight set of french fpunk, not very far from the F?d?ration Fran?aise du Fonck (FFF) less the horns. A great show, too bad the audience was taken by surprise.
<...The facts: As always, the parisian crowds are great fishbone crowds. The Nouveau Casino is a rather small venue (capacity around 500 i'd say), but the show had been 100% sold out for 2 weeks and the venue was packed. Just when i got there, Laurent the booking agent told me he almost cancelled the gig because Wood had missed the plane (yes!) and Rocky had spent most of the 12h flight on beer. A...
Basically, Cannibus cup is a week-long american event organised for americans-who-want-to-go-on- a-pilgrimage-to-the-world-capital- of-the-herb-that-makes -you-sleepy/crazy/openminded/... (fill the blanks / choose what it does for you). So even if the show was sold out, the venue was not packed at all. Same venue as for 9.9.99 and my memories of that time is that the melkweg was packed. Mainly ...
Just got to the office after an incredible gig last night. Met with Arno, Arne, Nancy, nancy's twin sister and Jeroen, found a few old friends with whom i used to go to fishbone gigs, more than 10 years ago and hadn't seen the bone since. The Spirit of 66 is mainly a blues joint, so i was a bit worried when i saw all these middle aged people, maybe just regulars of the club. How would they rea...
Well, Arno pretty much summed it up. I can't think of anything right now to add, except maybe for the gig description. The prime club is really small. i'm tempted to say that it's no larger than my living room, stage included, but it's bigger, really. The dance floor is only sth like 20ft by 15. Attendance was around 150, luckily, they chose that venue instead of the former one where the...
my ears are still ringing, but from the stereo in the car blasting this 12 minutes long version of servitude. This definitely was for me the highlight of friday's gig along with 'when problems arise' I was a bit disappointed by the turn out - there were almost more people waiting in line to get into the club after the show for an after party than for the gig itself. I'll try to say things ...
day two: amsterdam. the melkweg was about twice as small as the bataclan, but it was packed. As walt had said the day before, they put rachid and i on the guest list. it's cool because i spent that money on merchandise going directly into the band's pocket (or angelo in fact, only maddvibe merchandise available). apparently the ska revival thing is finally hitting europe, because the selecte...
Day one was in Paris. during the opening act, rachid, antoine, arne and i met w/ the band for a long time. we first got to speak w/ walt, who was impressed we'd be following them along their tour and told us he would let us in in amsterdam. spacey T talked a long about his internet projects, he's got a lot more to feed into his house of conxiousness. he said that mc knight might be playing the ...
note: the hubbard show with maceo parker happened in 1998 @ hubbard park. not this one.
i remember that Fishbone was headlining this festival where was also playing Bjork and Tool. Fishbone came off stage due to the curfew and angelo came back out in the field, playing high school marching band music with his saxophone. Or maybe i had smoked too much.
this was a great show, very different setlist than the day before in Brussels. High intensity. I remember that at one point Chris broke his trombone (or was it the roadie who was taken by surprise?) and threw it in the crowd. I don't know who is the lucky bastard who took it home...
Well, the Ancienne Belgique is one of the major club in Brussels. Cap around 2500 and it was full! I was at the time helping out an intern doing interviews for RockAGogo, the most famous rock show on belgian radio (interestingly enough, he now has a record company that distributes Fishbone...). SO we did a 90minutes long interview of Walter just before the show and it was great. We came in th...
Allegedly the first European concert, one day before the show at the Transmusicales de Rennes, which for a very long time was claimed to be the first one
MADNESS GOES NUTTY One of the best songs on Madness' latest album is called "I'll Compete" and that's just what the English group was forced to do in its first local appearance in more than two years Friday night at the Hollywood Palladium. Not only did it have to compete against the high standards of its own records, but also against the frenetic funk and ska of second-billed Fishbon...
