The best Fishbone show I have seen in years. Love the (not so new) lineup especially the trombone player. Fishbone are always better with more horns and brass than guitars. Too many guitars = too much metal, not enough funk or ska. Loving Norwood's lovely new bass with wobbly FX. More energy than the last couple of times I have seen Fishbone, very good to s...
Seems like quite a few Familyhood members were at this one. Reality Of My Surroundings tour, Bad Brains supporting, should have been amazing. But maybe I was looking forward to it a bit too much. This is the only Fishbone gig I've been to that was a disappointment to me. Both Bad Brains and Fishbone sounded like ropey heavy metal bands, worst I had ever seen either of them....
This show was a free recording for a TV show (can't remember the name for sure - Global Cafe? never saw it either). Fishbone and the African artist Tabu Ley were on the bill. Didn't really know what to expect, but y'know, it's Fishbone - gotta go!
Anyway two stages set up, one of them facing down towards the main stage (seriously sloping floor at the Academy as anyone wh...

Awesome show, great mix of tunes from the first 2 releases, plus some new material from Truth & Soul (not yet released at the time I think). A long thin venue didnt stop Angelo from his usual crowd surfing, wit...

Later that year, while in NYC, a friend told me Fishbone were playing the Old Ritz, I jumped at the chance. they were supporting some dodgy Scottish funk band called APB and the phrase 'blew them offst...
