Review from the Nuttwork's archive

I went to the Fishbone shows in Charlottesville, VA and Raleigh, NC last week and they were great. I got to talk to all the members and it does seem like Fish and Brewster are gone. John is playing keyboards and trombone, and Clinton is playing drums. These were Clinton's 5th and 7th shows and Norwood said he kept getting better every night. I say this every time I see Fishbone, but these were my favorite shows. Theses clubs were very small so I was on the rail in front of Angelo both nights. And on Friday, all the guys remembered me from Wednesday's show, so it was cool to chat with them again. Al's Not Well opened up both nights - kinda like a New Wavey No Doubt. Here's the set directly from a set list I snagged: Ugly Skankin' to the Beat Ma & Pa A Selection Housework Another Generation Unyielding Conditioning I Wish I Had a Date Cholly Question of Life Lyin' Ass Bitch Party at Ground Zero Alcoholic Give It Up Sunless Saturday Bonin' in the Boneyard Beergut Pressure Fishy Swa Ska When Problems Arise (Friday only)

I could not have asked for a better set. I've seen them on every tour since In Your Face and I've never heard them play "Lyin' Ass Bitch" or "Fishy Swa Ska." These are the songs that first made me love this band so much. I wish they would have played "Just Allow" though. Clinton messed up the timing at the end of "When Problems Arise" but other than that I thought he was damn good. When I first heard about Fish leaving, I was worried that it sounded like the beginning of the end. But at these two shows at least, it was clear that Angelo, Walter, and Norwood were having a lot of fun so I hope this party never ends. When I asked the guys where they were playing Thursday, they said Columbia, SC. I hadn't seen that date on any list here so check your local clubs for additional dates. They may be adding more as they go along. So by all means go to this show!!! And drag any friends you think may like Fishbone. Because this show will convert a lot of people as long as they see it. Spread the word!
