First Fishbone show ever. The Dead Milkmen, 2Live Crew and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band opened the show. I actually went to see the Milkmen and 2 Live Crew. I didn't know much about Fishbone except for two videos I had seen on a video channel called U68. And I missed Truth and Soul because I was Stationed in Germany when it came out. Anyway, after 2Live Crew finished their set , I decided it was ti...
Two bold memories:
1) As I crowd surfed, the crowd pushed me toward the stage, where the bouncer inexplicably punished me by removing my sneakers and tossing them backstage. There was a picture in the paper the next day of 2 Live Crew surrounded by the club security. I clipped out the picture, circled the bouncer who unshod me, wrote to management, and got restitution for my cheap-ass sneakers. Yay, Palladium.
2) At the urnial between me and my buddy Martin was Jam Master Jay. You don't know comic gesticulating until you've seen Martin try to signify to me that there's a big shot peeing between us without the bigshot noticing, pointing to him and miming a record scratching maneuver. I thought "no," but hanging from his neck on a gold chain was a little baby gold Adida.
Martin and Jay then exchanged a Bill Robinson two finger hand slap with their unsanitary fingers. RiP, Jay. RiP, Bill Robinson.
