This show was literally like a dream. The 1st time I saw Fishbone was in 96 in the Chimm Chimm phase right before the album came out in a small club which was extremely intense hearing those songs for the first time and having no idea what was going on. It was like being helplessly caught in a surf break and just getting disorientingly thrashed around in a whirl of sensations. Then Fish left and Fishbone was not red hot for the next 20 years. Then I randomly decide to go check in on them in Phoenix, expecting the usual underwhelming experience of the last so many years....the opening band plays....I see a DW drumset facing mostly backwards...I think "No way. Could it be?" And there he is: Fish on what I believe was his 2nd night back in forever. I had no fucking idea that was about to happen and wondered if I was indeed dreaming. They tore through most of the Chimm Chimm album just about like 1996 except this time I know every detail of every song. It was like heaven on Earth. Mosh pit was sweaty, intense but friendly, ie, perfect. I'm still excited about that show anytime I think about it (now 7 yeas later as I write this). It was literally like wishing you could go back in time and see your favorite band from back in the day in their prime and then being granted exactly that wish! One particular thing I remember is how hard Angelo pushed Fish at the end of Beergut. He just kept the outtro going and going and going, with the periodic, massive, tug boat horn blows and Fish just bashing away, until finally Fish just quit! I don't know how long Angelo was in the mood to go for, maybe indefinitely? We'll never know because Fish literally couldn't keep it going any longer and pulled the plug on it. There you go. That's it for now!
