Title:CBGB, FINAL WEEK: FISHBONE IN TRIBUTE TO HILLY KRISTAL
Author:VazquezNYC
Description:"Without CBGB that fostered a small scene and turned it into a worldwide event -- Punk Rock -- there wouldn't be no Fishbone, there woudn't be no Lollapalooza, no muthafuckin' Warped Tour, NOT SHIT....CBGB represents freedom. I'm glad to be here" And with that they launch into "Subliminal Fascism", Angelo killing it on the theremin and more than a few heads taking dives while one cat hangs from the monitors. Earlier, when the audience roars "Hey Ma/Hey Pa/What the hell is wrong with yaw?!" and Angelo assures "It's Alright", you believe him cuz it already is, as everyone passes through this so very obviously cathartic moment, creating their own personal battlefield as the music keeps time and orchestrates the healthy violence and the fuck-it-all abandon. It's the same now as it was half a lifetime ago for this band (and this fan). And when Angleo vamps on one's addiction to sunglasses, I can personally relate.Fishone have kept their shit together through the good the bad and the brutal, almost without ever stopping what seems to be a 20-year world tour. I always wondered why they didn't quite get as big as say, The Chili Peppers, and I still don't think it's too late. And Angelo should be starring in somebody's movie. Here they are, sometime last October, during the las week of CBGB. Bad Brains will be up, with an article and some stills, in about a day.
