My third time seeing Fishbone this year in Seattle (god, what a true blessing!! [getting the privelege of seeing them so many times, that is]). This set was CRUELY short! Oh my god, six songs?! It's not like it was their fault, however; the Hemp Fest powers-that-be kept their schedule mercilessly (cause all those guest speakers have so much important stuff to say in ten minute slots, right?).
Anyway, they played pretty well. Seeing them in an outdoor setting was kickass beyond belief, even though no one was really dancing (as pretty much everyone, except for myself was stoned off their clocks). Party and Beer Gut were stretched out and jammed on a little bit. All the guys had pretty good energy, even Norwood. Norwood and Rocky's solos on Unyielding Conditioning were simply beautiful; they did a terrific job opening with that song this time round--it fit the gorgeous day perfectly.
My one qualm....closing with Hide Behind My Glasses?? C'mon, I mean, cool song and all, but that is TOTAL mid-show material. If they really wanted to give all of those stoned hippies a good Fishbone taste they would have a) souled the fuck out of them (Aids or Heat) or b) rocked the fuck out of them (extended Swim, Sunless, a blasting BCT, etc).
Poor Dre looked bored out of his mind on the keyboards, as they didn't really use him this show. McKnight and some other dude of the brass were bringing the songs to that classic Fishbone level of awesome nuttiness. Angelo featured no theremin...BOO!!
But still....IT WAS FISHBONE, IT WAS INCREDIBLE, AND IT WAS FREE!!!
