Hey all...
the lucky bastard that I am: I got to see the bone for the second time this week... and although this set was way too short, it was a superb show!!!
I left for Nandrin at 16h30 and I arrived (long live the traffic jams around Brussels - yihaaa) at the Nandrin Festival by 19h00. Fishbone was scheduled to start at 19h30, so I headed up to the stage (after saying Hello to Laurent from Ter a Terre - Wolfundkind). The festival site is very nice in Nandrin, but only few people had shown up. I think 5000+ people can easily be accommodated in front of the mainstage, but at 19h30 only ca 100-200 people were there. Nevertheless, Fishbone took the stage at 19h40 and immediately started off superbly! The sound was phenomenal: everyone was very clear in the mix (what a contrast with the Amsterdam show). As there were only two persons sporting a Fishbone t-shirt or hoodie (thus almost no soldiers around), I found the set list very well build for an audience of newbies (lots of youngster 15-16 years of age). Starting off with Party (amazing version - perfect sound directly in front of the stage - it is amazing how Curtiss improved over just a few days!!!), going into Ma&Pa (most well-known Fishbone song in Belgium), then Karma (wheeww... blew me away), next Premadawnutt.... Then, Angelo came down from the 3 m high stage, jumped the frontstage barrier, and mingled with the crowd singing soulfully from the Dr. Maddvibe catalogue... The crowd really loved it... And man, were they all smiling (both on stage and in front of the stage!). They started Freddie's dead when Angelo just climbed back on stage... Man, it was amazing: with both Rocky and McNutt clearly in the mix!!! Next into Glasses and Suffering (with the Rubadubsouljah intro)... Dre also jumped in on the vocals now and then, also Norwoord backing vocals were superb!!! Next was the highlight of the evening: ALCOHOLIC... man man man... I really had a blast!!! I have never heard it this way: so clear, so full, so much filling from all of them.... especially Norwood did some amazing things on his bass!!! Some soloing, some extra fills... geez man... this was the first time it standed out so well in a live environment... further: a break: going into Black Sabbath... ;-) Super super super...
And then to finish up: Sunless Saturday: that's when it started pouring rain... what a moment... with the bright white flashing lights from the stage and the pouring rain....
Athough the set was way too short, I definitely had a great time!
After the show I met with Bryan (the manager from SilverBack) who recognized me from the show in Amsterdam (apparently the Paris show was also superb). I also got to meet Wet Daddy (who played supertight again although his right pink was pretty heavily injured), Dre and Angelo...
Also, it was my first time to actually catch a stick... ;-) (pheewww, took me quite some shows ;-) )
Best regards,
Arne
