Sat on the fence for this one for awhile. Did I really want to see Fishbone stuck in short opening set? Last minute I changed my mind, and I'm glad I did. Toronto always seems to turn out for the 'Bone and this time was no exception. I was expecting a room full of non-fans, but I was pleasantly surprised. And even the virgin members of the audience were soon hypnotized. So, I think maybe this tour with Slight Stoopid may be a good thing, in that it does bring some new exposure to a younger crowd.
Was this Fishbone at their best? How can it be without Dirty Walt? Angelo is a great front man, but he also needs a foil, and without Walt there I found the stage presence a little lacking. Walt's replacement is eager and hits all the right notes ... but ... he doesn't have the soul. And he seems to play more the role of roadie and cheerleader for Angelo. For example, I can't imagine Walt getting Angelo's instruments for him, or walking him through the crowd before the set like this guy did.
Anyway, I am glad I went to see this latest incarnation. Now all we need is to have them back in Canada as a headliner.
What can I say... FISHBONE IS RED HOT! The guys did an awsome show tonight. They were tight and in great spirits. I have seen this line up many times now and I really enjoy it. Angelo was his usual craz self. As always Rocky was an extra special treat. I thiink the new guys do a pretty good job. I mean think about what they are facing, years of musical history that they now have to recreate. Of c...
