This show was my first time seeing them live, and needless to say, momentous. I've been into the band for the incredibly short span of 2.5 years, but then again, I was about 7 when they were at their popularity peak. Unfortunately, they had to play in a crappy town at a crappy venue.
The opening bands weren't that great at all. The Pulverts were plagued with an annoying vocalist, and Instant Winner, with their seemless blend of brass and shameless power pop, had me yearning for more Pulverts.
Between sets, Angelo was spinning some great tunes...the Bad Brains surely being the highlight.
After quite a spell, the 'Bone finally took the stage (the stage limiting in its smallness). I was already feeling starstruck, and just watched in awe as Angelo did his Madd Vibe thing and wowed me with his theremin. The rest of the dudes came on shortly and they burst into "Unyielding Conditioning." Then came "Everyday Sunshine," and by the end of that number, the show was in full effect. I submitted a set list that I'm positive is in disarray, but I think I remembered every song in a pretty general order. I was PRAYING for more Temple Bar stuff ("Down Boy"), but alas, there really was only a teeny bit of "Git Out...". That's okay though, they touched on every album, except In Your Face ("Cholly" I was hoping for too). Pastor Dre told me that the dudes are polishing up their game on "In the Cube," to which I can only envy those who get to enjoy that epic piece of awesomeness live. They're new songs...too cool for school, but what do you expect? Bring on the new album!
The crowd could best be described as lame for the most part...at least in the front where I resided the entire time. I was disappointed that #1 the stage wasn't high enough for dives, and #2 the crowd wasn't even halfway packed.
After the show (I don't know if they actually played another set, as I got kicked out on the street for not being 21) I got to chill out and talk with new trumpeteer Pastor Dre. Totally awesome brude, that guy.
The new lineup is absolutely slammin' (and this was minus one guitarist). I am confident that Fishbone will be back in the Northwest Territories sometime in the future...only next time, hopefully they won't get screwed by a Seattle venue...they don't deserve to have to play in some dingy Tacoma bar.

Missed them in Des Moines last year and was absolutely awestruck...having only seen them at Lollapalooza '93 at the Gorge....I wondered how old that Theramin is, how awesome is that... is it just me or are they somehow channeling Funkedelic? Rocky's guitar was missing from the PA but was better by Freddie's Dead....that and the Suffering were definite highlights. ...
