So I was going to the River Market in Little Rock to meet a friend for drinks and on the way I get stopped by this guy in dreds who was giving me looks. He asks if I want to see a show tonight and me being a cheapskate who uses her looks to get into free shows says yes. He says he'll put me on the guest list. The band's name is Fishbone, he says. He's Tracy, the lead guitar.
All right, so I'm not the biggest ska fan or anything of a starfucker, but like I said, it was a chance to see a free show.
So long and short, about half an hour before the show I'm sitting on a bench outside the club they were playing at and talking music with the lead guitar. Eventually we go in and I get to go "backstage," which is really about a closet sized space with chairs next to the stage. Fishbone puts on a DAMN good show, and this is coming from someone who's only heard of them by name. The lead singer (who I didn't get a chance to talk to but is damn cool onstage) has more energy than a kindergartener.
End of story.....I didn't get to see the end of the set because I kept getting messages from my boyfriend (who was not there to enjoy my presence backstage.....I'm glad because otherwise I wouldn't have gotten one foot in the door thanks to his jealous ass) and eventually left to go home. I could have smoked for free too. Damn! I didn't even get to say bye. Sorry, Fishbone.
