for the sake of your own sanity, all informations about the happennings of last WE in LA has been classified confidential, besides for the concerts.
all i can say is that the familyhood is not a concept. it's a reality. as i remember repeating over and over during the bbq: it was so right.
hopefully, when the DVD is out, you'll witness how everything r...
Hey all! I have never posted a review of a show before, but since I see the reviews are scarce, I will try to throw in my experience of the weekend. I got in Friday night, after a 5 hour flight, straight from work, so I was already exhausted when I got there. Everyone from the list was hanging out at the Travelodge rooms (that was the central meeting place). Everyone I met was immediately frie...
Man oh man....what a weekend. Like Sarah said, gives us some time to recover a bit and gather our thoughts because a LOT of stuff went on that weekend, from a lot of different perspectives. First and foremost what everybody wants to know: The new material. A lot of us have heard four or more of the new songs on the last tour, but they worked them a little differently for the Temple Bar shows (...
Hey everyone! Just wanna say that the show on Friday nite wuz the BOMB!! The new songz are incredible, each song had my full attention through out the show. They're brilliant! Last Dayz is the shit, heavy groove with da' reggae twist. Skank and go Nuttz, Are u wid it, etc. HOT Damn, This is Fishbone! PFN is a good album, but this is the shit Hollywood wrekordz should have let them do. The show and...
Hey all!! We just got in a couple of hours ago...but man, we miss being in Santa Monica. All the way home all we could talk about was missing our new family. The drive home was just a dazing swirl of laughter and storytelling. For all of you that didn't get to go, I will do my best to recount, to the best of my recollection, any and all happenings.
First, the familyhood. ...
Wow. What a weekend. WOWOWOW! Its difficult to put into words, but I'll try.
First off, thursday: I went with three friends, two of them virgins, all of us from LA. We got there really early for fear of a sell out, which gave us much drinking time; I had guinness, the others had tequila (more on this later). I met Sarah and several other list members, all of them beautiful people.
The set was shockingly good. I was amazed and delighted by all the new material. I kept expecting the next song to be housework or something but it never came. I think the fact that they played so much new material added immensely to the flavor and success of the shows. Great sound and an equally great crowd. I danced my ass off and had a hell of good time.
Back to the tequila and the only bad part of the night: As I was leaving, a bartender told me one of my friends was outside and in "bad shape." I found him a couple blocks away incoherent, unresponsive, and puking. We coaxed him into the car, got him home, and stayed at his place overnight. He was ok though, and in the morning he said he had a great time until he blacked out, so there's a happy ending there after all.
Friday: Slept through most of the day and came back and met even more list members. I think this show topped thursdays, with a more intense crowd that the band seemed to feed off of more and the alcoholic closer, (I really love that song live) it may have been the best fishbone show I've seen. I got to talk to a bunch of list members and others a lot more and it was just a great vibe.
Saturday: Waited around at the hotel and chatted it up with the familyhood. Drove my injured little CRX up to Leo Carillo (hope I didn't terrorize you too much, Nicole!) and just chilled and ate and drank and danced and was merry. What a time! It was almost surreal. Everyone there was just beautiful. Dennis was in a sustained state of heavenly dance and enjoyment I have never seen before. There was just such a sense of common joy and family. And to think most of us had never met in person just days before. I can't emphasize enough what a great bunch of people you all are. I had a blast. I think Dennis said it best when he said it was "just right."
I've got to thank you all for coming out from all over the place for this incredible event and allowing me the opportunity to share it with you. Thanks to the band for two amazing shows, a great bbq, and for providing a reason and foundation for a community. And thanks to Sarah for facilitating this whole thing and bringing your beautiful daughter Ase, the hit of the bbq.
Much love, -neal
I have to admit to a little apprehension when I heard that the show was going to be all new (more or less) music. It's not that I don't dig hearing new songs at shows, it's just that I love the old stuff so much. Plus, hearing the four new songs on this previous tour when they were in Seattle, they weren't completely fishbone tight yet. But I was sold quickly, once the boys started into their s...
Hey all, I think I've recovered enough from my flight back to NYC to make a coherent post. First off, to echo the sentiments of most everyone else, the reunion and the shows were flat out amazing. The chance to meet some of you folks truly was an honor. At one point, Lauren Batiste asked me, "So what was your high point?" To which I replied, "High point? You mean I gotta pick just one?! Hel...
I just got in (Monday, about 10:30pm) and had about 130 notes to read... mostly, everyone summed up the weekend just as I would have. The whole event just exceeded my expectations at every turn. the music, the location, the people the BBQ (Go Derrick!)... We had seals swimming in the ocean in front of the BBQ! Just amazing.
I still wish I had taken a picture when I opened...
i have slept! yesterday i flew home, went straight to work, then to rehearsal where i was thrown around stage and did backflips (i was already tired!). but now i have rested so i will add my take to the gathering, or really, the soldiers:
