In one of those unbelievable coincidences that almost make this atheist believe there really is a benevolent spirit watching over me, my two friends and I, speeding across the country in an old Cadillac, found ourselves entering Wyoming the same day as Fishbone was scheduled to play Teton Village. As we headed south down an unpaved road and turned into Teton, which really is a ski resort/village and not a town at all, I had trouble figuring out why Fishbone would play in a place this out-of-the-way. Once Fishbone finally hit the stage at 12:10, the crowd quickly answered that question: there were maybe 100 people squeezed into a kooky bar/lodge and every single one of them was dancing in some way, and almost nobody had left when the show ended past two in the morning. Teton Village in the summer seems to be populated almost entirely by twentysomething ski bums who basically run the town past ten p.m., when the few grown-ups around have already gone to bed. And since it's the only real entertainment in town, everyone goes, even if they've never heard the band. The guy at the hostel who checked us in said they play here 2-3 times a year, and now I can understand why.
Interesting setlist...they definitely sound heavier (both in the mix of songs and the style in which they're played) than they have the past couple of times I've seen them.
Offhand I remember (not in order): Rolling in a Many Blunt Ways Nutmeg World (really good live) Skankin' to the Beat Karma Tsunami Lyin' Ass Bitch Ma and Pa Behavior Control Technician Cholly The Suffering Shakey Ground Where'd You Get Those Pants? Just Allow In the Heat of Anger Skank'n Go Nutz (this is my favorite of the new songs) Primadawnutt [That other new song people have mentioned, and whose name I forget] Pressure Riot Deep Inside Sunless Saturday ---- ENCORE: Bonin' in the Boneyard Party at Ground Zero
All in all a great show. Had a lot of fun. Can't wait to see them back home in San Francisco this weekend!
