Here's my little ol review of the festivities:
Took my friend Tim (Fishbone virgin) and went for drinks at the bar next to the club. Who's there tossing em back but Norwood himself. Went up and introduced, played the fool, drooled on myself and made a complete fan-boy outta myself. Wood was down as fuck and wants me to send in a photo of my Fuck Racism shirt so they can start printing them again. Told him I'd give him the shirt (and started to disrobe in a sports bar...probably a bad idea) before Wood kindly told me to keep my clothes on. Tim was impressed. Good start.
The opening band, Primitive Reason, described themselves to me as Bad Brains influenced. Down as FUCK reggae/groove/metal/thrash band...could lock into pissed off grooves that practically unleashed primal beast shit in me. I like.
The Urge...I've seen em dozens of times before, this was the best. Steve threw down, the crowd gave massive love and I grooved myself silly. Talked to Steve after the show...he hugged me, hung around a bit and proved himself to be pretty dope indeed.
The Bone...I place this (maybe) number 2 or 3 in my book of Bone shows. To say it was awe-inspiring would be to sell it short. To say it was mind-blowing doesn't come close. Angelo was on FIRE, Walt was fulla attitude, Norwood kept the groove bumping, Spacey is slowly morphing into a god, before our eyes and John bangs the skins lika man possessed...brings to mind Puffy Borden, if nothing else. The Bone kept changing and mixing up the set list, feeding off the groove. I have NEVER seen them more connected or appearing to have more fun. Big grins never left their faces. Angelo crowd surfed and stage dived about 300 times, once all the way to the back (during Alcoholic) bar to get another beer. The place looked and felt full, the crowd was AMAZING...so much love in such a small venue. I got to talk to Norwood, Angelo and John after the show (John has to be one of the nicest men in existence) and nothing ruined my vibe. This is a night I'll be rehashing until I die, quite honestly. Everything clicked cosmically (great venue, decent sound, insane performance, great crowd, awesome setlist...). Steve, I wish I would run into you there...sorry, amigo, next time. I'm still high from the show (not on pharmaceuticals, ya naughty nannies...I'm talkin high on life, here) and won't come down until sometime next year. Here's what I remember of the setlist, not really in order except for the first two and last one:
-Party at Ground Zero (opener) -Karma Tsunami -I Wish I Had A Date -Cholly (any fat chicks in the house?...cmon baby, get on stage...you fat, aren't ya?) -Ma and Pa -Deep Inside (never thought I'd hear this again) -Housework -Behavior Control Technician -Everyday Sunshine (NEVER EVER thought I'd hear this again!!!) -Alcoholic -Shakey Ground -Suffering -Where'd You Get Those Pants? (complete with plenty of lovely ladies on stage, shaking their pants) -One Planet People -Just Allow (one of my favorites...the metal breakdown sounded like the heavens opened up and spewed forth beautiful noise...makes up for no Fight the Youth...) -AIDS and Armageddon -Sunless Saturday (finale)
No encore but who needed one after sheer perfection? No complaints...zero zip. This is why I love the Bone. Still giving 1110%, even after all these years.
