Review from the Nuttwork's archive

My name is Scott. I'm new to the list, but have been into Fishbone for about ten years now. I've seen the Bone play every time they hit Phoenix, AZ since 91.(about 13 times). I've seen them play in Anaheim, Hollywood, and twice in Oregon where I now live. The show last night in Portland was one of the best I've seen in a while. I hope nobody gets pissed, but there were a couple of low points in the night. I'll get those out of the way now. Towards the beginning of the show, the volume on Angelo's mic went down during one song. He was drowned out by Walt and Norwood, but by the next song, the level was back up and sounded great. All through the show, Spacey's guitar solos were inaudible. It looked like he was just playing some whacked-out air guitar. Enough bitching. The show was fucking awesome. Back in 98 some shows they played in Phoenix seemed really negative. Angelo would verbally abuse some fans. And the band seemed all around unhappy to be there. Not last night. They seemed to play with a sense of enjoyment you would expect from a new band. Angelo sounded great, the horns were tight, Norwood played acoustic bass on two songs, and I was impressed by John Steward. I also took my 3 year old son for his first live Fishbone experience. He loved it but fell asleep half way through. I'll quit rambling now. I don't remember the order of the set-list, but here are the songs they played. If anyone on the list was there, feel free to correct me.

I was talking with a friend of mine, and he said that he has never seen a bad Fishbone show. Last night was NO exception! My girlfriend and I made the two hour trek to Portland to see Fishbone at the Crystal Ballroom. If we ever had a Familyhood Reunion I think it should be at the Crystal. The Ballroom is an old dancehall from the 20's that they reopened a few years ago. One of the no...
