Review from the Nuttwork's archive

I say this every time but, best show ever.Cholly, behavior, pressure, godzilla, babyhead, a new,new fast one, ugly, smim, lemon merange (deon did a tastful use of ghost notes at "you can take away the beat...", did fish do that live?) The crowd was awsome and HUGE.Every one came out, like it was new years, the new 9:30 club is a big place too. They played for 2 and one half hours. It felt...

Review from the Nuttwork's archive

Last night's show was the bomb. There's a new energy that's been missing for a while. Deion, Spacey, and John bring new blood. Angelo, Norwood, and Walt are recharged! This was the TIGHTEST version of Fishbone I've seen in a long time. A bud of mine had a good analogy. He said the Fishbone from 1996-1998 was like a Mustang GT with some new parts, but well over 100,00 miles. The band we saw last night was like a brand new Lexus. When I saw them in T-O, they weren't the main attraction(bike race tournament). Last night was in front of their people, and it showed. Live crowd, pumped up band, loud-ass sound system.......damn, my ears are still ringing. No bad audio mix ala Donny and Marie/Magic/Viva Variety, cause for once everything was just right. Another motivation for the high octane performance could have been that Gaston was video taping. That's right. The GaSToN. Seems that the most dogged out webmaster of the '90's also serves as video coordinator and Fishbone servicestation (merchandise booth) supplier. We talked for a little about the website, although he didn't want to talk PC's, and there is a progression that most people haven't seen to appreciate. He says that they started out with a 486 PC with 16M RAM, and are getting stronger every day. He did point out once again that the whole unuttednations project was a collective effort and welcomes any contributions the fans want to give up (bitching about how you would do it differently doesn't count). And he's real tight lipped about the Friends of Fishbone project, so don't ask. Ya know, having the FOF lineup being a suprise may not be such a bad thing. He really DOES do a lot for one guy. The only guy doing more stuff than him last night was the drummer/singer/background vocals/entertainment for the local band All Mighty Senators. They were a drummer, guitarist, bassist, and FIVE horns. I don't know what the 9:30 Club pays, but they had to split that little bit of money EIGHT ways. And to be honest, only their drummer kept your attention. Like Diane said last night, they were a one-man band. The other opening act was Clones of Funk, who were from Annapolis MD, doing Funkadelic (pre-Parliament) covers. They were really good. As far as what they played last night, I remember a few, Diane and Rob will have to fill in the rest:

1) Monkey Dick 2) Ma and Pa 3) Just Allow 4) Ugly 5) Alcoholic 6) Bonin' in the Boneyard 7) A Selection 8) Words and Music 9) Cholly 10) Sunless Saturday 11) Freddie's Dead 12) Black Box 13) Lemon Meringue 14) Lyin' Ass Bitch 15) Skankin' to the Beat 16) Pressure 17) Masquerade 18) Rock Star 19) Party at Ground Zero 20) The Goose 21) Swim

Peace and Love All

Review from the Nuttwork's archive

Angelo opened the show reading "Jah Jah on the Telephone". The only songs I can think of that High C doesn't have listed are "V.T.T.L.O.F.D.G.F." and "A Question of Life". One of the songs was also from the soundtrack for Hard Core Logo. It may be listed below and I just didn't catch the title of it. I agree with Chris' review of the show. It was slammin'! It's great to have the full horn se...
