So I get on the bus ... funfunfun ... we drive the two hours ... about 20 minutes out of CB it starts to rain ... now not really a bad thing until your realize that this was an outdoor show ... things look bad ... we get to the place ... the rain stops ... the lines are growing (this is 311's home town after all ... it was PACKED) ... I asked the guy frisking people if he enjoys his work ... he was NOT happy with me ... there are a surprising amount of people who want to see Fishbone ... they hit the stage and a fair chunk of the audience goes nuts ... there were two very young very lovely women next to me who loved all the ska stuff (geeze I am an old perv)
But anyway here were the songs ... Intro (from Chim Chim Sunless Saturday / A little limp ... they should have warmed up (it was COLD) with something else ... Ma & Pa Alcoholic Party at ground zero Question of life Cholly / Ok ... it's crude ... it crass ... especially with Dirty Walt's intros ... but it's still fun ... and the audience ate it up ... Pray to the junkiemaker / STUNNING ... ABSOLUTELY STUNNING ... left the audience screaming ... Naz-tee may'en / Angelo's liquid hips bit amazed the very young very lovely women ... Freddie's dead / WAY too slow ... I get the idea that they are sick of this one ... Swim / Took the audience by surprise after a pretty ska oriented set ... and they ate it up ... they could have had an encore if they had not turned the audience lights on RIGHT at the end of the song ... and keep in mind that this was in 311's home town ...
I heard people all night saying how great Fishbone were ...
So I was standing where the bands walk up to the buses ... I see Norwood ... and (thanks to my theatre teachers) give my best "you can hear me over the between band music" bellow ... he comes over and signs stuff ... I see Angelo .. he gets the same treatment ... Spacey T takes his turn and we talk for awhile ... he has played with some amazing people ... I never see Fish or Walt (the creep) but Brewster comes down later ... and signs all my stuff and we talk for awhile ... the Fishbone folks that I met were way nice (Angelo obviously wanted to get away from the crowd ... but signed everything in front of him) all in all it was a great evening ...
Brewster ... the new keyboard player was in the Untouchables in case anyone is interested ... Spacey T is very cool and very nice ... and Angelo was very very cool ... but Norwood was probably the nicest of them all ...
Dirty Walt sent a roadie looking for me to see if I had any weed ... when it turned out that I didn't ... well ... Walt did not sign my stuff ...
311 had a drum solo ... and the biggest applause of the night for them was for teir strobe lights ... shudder ...
