FISHBONE live Essen Gruggehalle Germany 1993 05 28 complete TV Broadcast WDR1 / Rocklife Rocknacht. 1hour 08 min, 10 sec.It was a TV Show called Rocklife Rocknacht on WDR1. The same kind that the famous Rockpalast, maybe the TV show that that followed and replaced him....They recorded the same day all the sets of GUN CLUB, NO-FX, THERAPY?, THE LEVELLERS, BIOHAZARD, JINGO DE LUNCH and of course FISHBONE. I never knew that all theses bands played the same day than Fishbone.

Chrismich Keßler was there ! It was on May 29 1993 @ Grugahalle Essen, DE. It was during the first european tour of 1993 of the give a monkey tour may 28 to june 11). Then they did the lollapalooza tour and came back late august to mid october in europe. The second show of the tour, they played the day before in switzerland. At the same day this german show recorded GUN CLUB NOFX THERAPY?THE LEVELLERS
BIOHAZARD JINGO DE LUNCH FISHBONE
I copy here a chat I had with Chrismich Keßler on official fb page : Saw one concert with both Fishbone and NOFX in 1993 in Essen/Germany! (WDR Rocknacht) ... Remember that Angelo started the short and powerful Fishbone set with some spoken word performance (probably from his poetry book he also sold that evening? ... unfortunately missed to pick up a copy) about the "black box" "that thrills / kills" ... ? at least that's what I remember ... maybe something about the television? ... he wore a huge cap and had a staff in his hands while he was singing and doing cartwheels all over the stage, while Christopher constantly did attempts to do handstands on his single-leg keyboard stand... Thats what I remember, it was just awesome! Still have the Fishbone long sleeve I got that evening. We had to drive 300 miles from Southern Germany to see that show. It was more than worth it.
Didn't see this recording existed on youtube. Looking at the footage 27 years later the show was still just awesome! (I just don't find evidence for my memories that Chris was jumping while playing keys, doing semi handstands. Maybe I saw it somewhere else?) ... they look even more like they just dropped out of the Holy Mothership than I remembered

I recall that Fishbone were one of the first bands who played that evening and their set time was limited, and I love how they were confident to not just play the full over-length album versions, but to jam even longer spacey, athmospercial outtros, like on Servitude and Black Flowers...
It looks like the video is the whole set but I'm very sure there was this "black box" spoken word performance by Angelo. I don't recognise where it might have been cut out at the beginning of the show... My friend who had introduced and explained Fishbone records to me some time before asked Angelo (who sold copies of his book) what a "Skitzo" is and of course it was a "schizophreniac"...
This is the worn long sleeve I got at that show, plus some promotional material from "Give a Monkey a Brain ... " that had been a small component of a full-sized Fishbone window display installation in the local record store; when I saw them exchange the decoration I asked and they let me have it. (Yes, I witnessed Fishbone had some good promotion for the album by the label - at least in my small hometown in Germany ;)) ... We put that "Fishbone" cardboard on display in the car's rear window, between the glass and the stuffed tents and sleeping bags, and would drive like that to Essen to see the show, and after the show would go on to Netherlands to stay for a few days at the Dynamo heavy metal festival.
Yes they must have edited out the TV critical thing!
These are the bands that played that 1993 show (don't recall the exact playing order, and unfortunately don't remember Gun Club at all, but Levellers have the longest recording released by WDR, and Therapy the shortest):
The Levellers - Jingo De Lunch - NOFX - Biohazard - The Gun Club - Fishbone - Therapy?
(they updated the discography but clearly the setlist and musicians list for that show are not correct.)
Funny enough, one of the credits in the WDR video goes to a young Lars Montag (probably camera assistant), who later directed/produced a lot of crime thrillers for german television and recently did the netflix 'How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast)' ... I love that he recorded that Fishbone show
