I saw Fishbone last night (17 July) at Sinbad's in Buffalo, NY. I got to see Norwood playing "Bonin' in the Boneyard" from the front edge of the stage (apologies to Eric (?), our "Bonin'..." transcriber, as I failed miserably: I didn't videotape it!). They played a great show, and for those of you who don't think Norwood likes to slap, GUESS AGAIN!! He was a slappin' fool. He primarily played a very beautiful Warwick 5-string, but the other 1/3 of the time he played a bass almost identical to mine (the one I've still got for sale), a Music Man StingRay-5 string (his had a rosewood neck). I had a funny angle on his rack, but what I recognized was an unknown make of compressor, a Rane crossover, an Eventide UltraHarmonizer, two power amps and a Samson wireless unit. Speaker cabinets included the awe-inspiring SWR Big Ben (one 18") and the Goliath II (4x10" with the bullet tweeter). The same cab setup was duplicated about fifteen feet stage right. Serious rumble. Wow. And I got to meet him after the show! A nice guy. That makes three monster players I've met at this club in the past three months: Bootsy Collins (with Deee-Lite), Muzz Skillings from Living Colour, and now Norwood. Hope- fully some of the funk is rubbing off!!
michael patrick swain slap that thang!

Their sheer energy, musicianship and goodtime vibe taught me all I needed to know about what live music could be. In the thousand plus shows since Ive seen this one, Fishbone stands alone as the singular bes...
