I am a Brit and had been living in the US for a few months. I had seen the video for Party At Ground Zero on a big screen at a Descendents gig and it really caught my attention. Later that year, while in NYC, a friend told me Fishbone were playing the Old Ritz, I jumped at the chance. they were supporting some dodgy Scottish funk band called APB and the phrase 'blew them offstage' was invented for this night, let me tell you! Fishbone were bouncing off the walls and so were the audience. I had seen some great bands, but...
Suffice to say I think most of the audience left when APB came on, I certainly did. I left America dreaming that one day they would come to the UK. Eventually they did, starting at Dingwalls in Camden and my mission to convert as many new heads to the Fishbone cause began. I took everyone I could persuade at some time over the next few years to see Fishbone shows.
